On January 13, 2023, it was reported that China has plans to set up a national technology center focusing on water transport safety in Zhejiang, a coastal province.

This center aims to elevate the waterborne transport equipment industry and support the country’s transportation growth.
The Ningbo municipal government teamed up with the China Classification Society (CCS) to create this innovation hub. The goal is to merge science and technology with practical applications.
This partnership seeks to build a strong equipment industry cluster and improve safety in supply chains, enhancing Ningbo’s status as a marine center.
The agreement outlines a collaborative effort in research, applying new findings, and training skilled workers in the water transport field.
They will focus on innovations for deep-sea exploration, smart shipping, green technologies, advanced ships, marine engineering, and new materials.
Additionally, a testing and verification platform for transport equipment will be established.
The CCS operates under the Ministry of Transport and provides top-notch technical standards for ships and related equipment, ensuring safety and reliability.■
