CINCINNATI — On Tuesday, Elder High School had a special day. Instead of their usual purple collared shirts, many students wore red hoodies, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. They paid a small fee to dress down, all to support women’s heart health.
Lauren Re, a sophomore at nearby Seton High School, inspired this event. She is a “Teen of Impact” for the American Heart Association, leading a team of about 30 teenagers focused on raising funds and awareness for women’s heart health.
Lauren has set an ambitious goal of raising $80,000 by April. “It’s a big challenge, but I believe I can do it,” she said. Her motivation? “One out of three women die from cardiovascular disease. With six sisters and attending an all-girls school, I feel strongly about helping.” She plans to hold several fundraisers this month and teach others how to perform chest compressions.
AJ Meyer, a sophomore at Elder High School, is also on Lauren’s team. He has already raised $1,000. “Many people I know struggle with heart disease, including my grandma. It’s important to help as many people as I can,” he shared.
Lauren is one of five teens participating in the “Go Red for Women” campaign. They aim to raise awareness and funds for this crucial cause. Together, they’re making a difference in their community.
