Co-MVP Peterson Shines as West Secures All-American Victory!

Darryn Peterson shone bright in the McDonald’s All American boys’ game, scoring 18 points and earning co-MVP honors. The West team triumphed over the East with a final score of 105-92 at the Barclays Center.

Alijah Arenas, the son of NBA legend Gilbert Arenas, made an impact too. He wrapped up the third quarter with a free throw, giving the East a narrow lead of 74-70. But the West pulled ahead in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to as much as 15 points.

The game highlighted some future stars, including the Boozer brothers. Cayden and Cameron Boozer, sons of NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer, showcased their skills. Cameron, a top prospect for the 2025 class, shared MVP honors with Peterson, scoring 16 points to lead the East. Isiah Harwell, also from the East, matched his score with 16 points and is committed to the University of Houston.

The West team included future Duke players, Nikolas Khamenia, Braylon Mullins, and Darius Adams, as well as Eric Reibe, a center. This year marked a milestone for UConn, as they had three McDonald’s All Americans on the court, all playing for the West.

A.J. Dybantsa, the number one recruit in the country committed to BYU, added excitement with 13 points and a memorable dunk. Niko Bundalo, heading to Washington, contributed 12 points as well. Darius Acuff Jr., a top prospect bound for Arkansas, scored 12 points for the East.

This year’s game shows the rising talent in high school basketball. According to a recent survey by the National Federation of State High School Associations, participation in high school basketball continues to grow, with thousands of players across the country showcasing their talent.

The McDonald’s All American game not only highlights individual skills but also builds connections for athletes eager to leap into collegiate and professional basketball. With such strong players coming up, the future of the sport looks promising.
