Colorado Reports Minor NCAA Rules Violation After Deion Sanders Highlights 5-Star QB Julian Lewis on Coach’s Show

Colorado recently reported a minor NCAA rules violation involving their exciting 2025 recruit, Julian Lewis. This came about when Coach Deion Sanders mentioned Lewis on his coaches’ show, even before he officially signed with the Buffaloes.

According to reports from USA Today, this violation involved two incidents linked to the five-star quarterback. Lewis, who de-committed from USC, joined Colorado in December after verbally committing the previous November.

Coach Sanders discussed his recruitment approach on the show. He explained how he reached out to Lewis and his father, wanting to ensure they felt comfortable with Colorado. He said, “Hey, get JuJu on the phone and get his pop on the phone,” highlighting his proactive approach in building a relationship with the family.

The second violation happened when the show’s host mentioned Lewis before he had officially signed, which goes against NCAA rules. As a result of these infractions, Colorado implemented additional rules education for Sanders and reduced in-person recruiting by four days during the spring recruiting period. They’ve also removed the two shows that caused the violations from YouTube and decided not to live-stream Sanders’ show in the future.

Despite these setbacks, Lewis is one of the top recruits in the 2025 class. He ranks as the 10th overall player nationally and is the best player in Georgia. Lewis is also recognized as the third best pro-style quarterback in his class, trailing only two other five-star prospects.

Looking ahead, Lewis is poised to take on the starting quarterback role for Colorado in 2026, especially with Shedeur Sanders heading to the NFL. To fill the gap in 2025, Colorado added former Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter to their roster. Meanwhile, rumors about Coach Sanders potentially leaving for the NFL appear to be fading, as he hasn’t interviewed for the Dallas Cowboys job recently.
