Congratulations to Courtney Baumann, RN at Corewell Health Trenton Hospital! She is the MHA Keystone Center Speak-up! Award recipient for February.

This award honors those in Michigan hospitals who go above and beyond to keep patients and staff safe. Baumann earned this recognition for advocating for a patient whose discharge posed serious health risks.

“I’m honored by this recognition,” Baumann shared. “At Corewell Trenton, we are encouraged to advocate for our patients. I’m thankful to be part of a team that promotes this kind of support.”

Before a patient was set to leave, Courtney spotted changes in the patient’s condition. Her timely intervention ensured the patient got the care they needed and showed how vital it is to speak up during critical moments.

“Courtney’s commitment was crucial and illustrates the significance of advocating for patient safety,” said Kristine Donahue, RN, president of Corewell Health Hospitals. “Her quick response and decisive actions reflect the patient-first culture we value at Corewell Health.”

Other finalists for the Speak-up! Award this quarter included:

  • Spencer Smith, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault
  • Thomas Warner, McLaren Greater Lansing
  • Beronica Bahoura, Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital

“We take pride in recognizing healthcare professionals like Courtney,” said MHA CEO Brian Peters. “Her quick thinking and courage to speak up truly set a high standard for patient care and safety in Michigan hospitals.”
