Daniel Craig has expressed his appreciation for producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. Recently, it was announced that they are passing on creative control of the James Bond franchise to Amazon MGM Studios.
In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Craig said, “My respect, admiration, and love for Barbara and Michael remain constant and undiminished. I wish Michael a long, relaxing (and well-deserved) retirement, and whatever ventures Barbara chooses next, I know they will be spectacular, and I hope to be part of them.”
Craig is known for playing the iconic British spy in five films: Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021).
According to THR, Amazon MGM Studios will create a new joint venture to manage the rights to the James Bond franchise. While Wilson and Broccoli retain co-ownership, the studio will take over creative control. Amazon acquired MGM in 2022 and has had the rights to distribute the Bond films since then.
Michael Wilson, who is 83 years old, announced he will step back from producing to concentrate on art and philanthropy. He and Broccoli have been at the helm of the franchise for years, following in the footsteps of their father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, who played a crucial role in shaping the series since the first film, Dr. No, in 1962.
Barbara Broccoli also remarked, “With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.”
Now, fans are eagerly awaiting Amazon MGM Studios’ next steps, including the decision on who will be the next actor to take on the iconic role of 007.
