Deebo Samuel Sends Heartfelt Message to 49ers Fans Following Commanders Trade

Deebo Samuel is leaving San Francisco, but he’s not making a big fuss about it. Instead of a long farewell message, he shared a video montage of his favorite moments with the 49ers, along with a simple note: “Appreciate yall for everything!!!!!” on Instagram.

Recently, the 49ers traded Samuel to the Commanders in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. Samuel, now 29, had mentioned during Super Bowl week that he wanted a trade. He’s a unique player, known for his ability to act as both a wide receiver and a power running back. Unfortunately, he just had the lowest season output of his six-year career, finishing with only 806 yards last season, a sharp decline from his historic 1,770 yards in 2021 and 1,117 yards in 2023.

The Commanders are taking on Samuel’s full $17.55 million salary for the last year of his contract before he hits free agency. His farewell video starts with the moment he learned he was drafted No. 36 in 2019—a pivotal moment for him. It includes highlights of his stunning touchdowns, strong plays, and the joy he felt celebrating two NFC championships, even though the 49ers lost in both Super Bowls he played in.

The song “God Did” by DJ Khaled plays in the background, adding to the emotional weight of his montage. Commanders general manager Adam Peters, who was with the 49ers when Samuel was drafted, has high hopes for him. Despite injuries throughout his career, Peters believes Samuel has the potential to bounce back and contribute significantly to the Commanders’ offensive strategy.

Last season, the Commanders found themselves in the NFC Championship game but fell short. With new quarterback Jayden Daniels working with star receiver Terry McLaurin, adding Samuel to the mix could be just what the team needs to elevate their game further.
