MARIETTA — A shared love for books sparked an exciting event at Clutch Collective on March 22. The first-ever Adult Book Fair, organized by Clutch Collective and The Novel Notion, celebrated reading in a fresh way, inviting adults to revisit the joy of discovering new books and unique pieces.
People started lining up even before the doors opened, and the excitement stayed high throughout the evening. “We’ve never seen this many people in our shop,” said Sarah Arnold, the owner of Clutch Collective. “The turnout completely took us by surprise!”
Book lovers traveled from areas like Athens, Ohio, to enjoy the fair. They browsed handmade literary goods, exchanged books, and chatted with other readers. “Seeing the crowd was fantastic! The vendors had such creative book-related items. I loved the book swap—it was wholesome and unique. I can’t wait for the next one!” said Stacey Saunders, who came with her family.

The Novel Notion, known for its fun book-themed accessories, participated for the first time. Many items, such as cozy bookmarks and keychains, quickly sold out. Sam Miller, the owner, expressed her delight, saying, “I never expected this level of interest. The community response has been incredible!”
Guests also enjoyed exploring a selection of creative ceramics by local artists and unique accessories like Kindle covers and decorative bookmarks. Businesses like Wit & Whimzy showcased popular book-related items, making the experience even more engaging. “The store buzzed with excitement as people shared what they were finding,” said Laura Pytlik, owner of Wit & Whimzy.
A standout feature was the Book Swap, where over 200 books changed hands. Unsold books were donated to the Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Washington County Public Library, emphasizing the event’s spirit of sharing and community.

Reflecting on the event’s success, Arnold noted, “It was more than just selling books; it was about connection. People bonded over their favorite stories and genres, creating a lovely community atmosphere.”
Miller pointed out the nostalgia tied to book fairs. “These events remind us of the joy and excitement of childhood book fairs. They were moments of freedom and discovery—this fair allowed us to relive that rush.”
The overwhelming turnout has sparked ideas for future events. It’s clear that a passion for books unites people and fosters a lively, welcoming space for readers. As demand grows, the community eagerly awaits the possibility of more book fairs in the future.
