DePauw University has been honored with the Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award for 2025 from Insight Into Academia magazine. This award recognizes institutions that make significant strides in promoting diversity and inclusion in their mental health initiatives.
The magazine, a leading voice in higher education, will spotlight DePauw among 70 other awardees in its September 2025 issue. Assistant Dean of Student Wellness Trevor Yuhas expressed hope that this recognition will inspire the campus community to further embrace and celebrate its supportive culture.
Yuhas noted that DePauw’s holistic approach to student wellness, including innovative programs like MINDful College Connections—which collaborates with local institutions such as Rose-Hulman and Butler University—was a key factor in the university’s selection.
Lenore Pearlstein, the magazine’s publisher, stated, “Many institutions go unrecognized for their dedication to mental health services. We honor these universities as role models in the field.”
DePauw has a strong history of investment in mental health resources. In 2020, the university received a $2 million grant from the Buehler Family Foundation, enabling renovations of its Health and Wellness Center. The following year, a Lilly Endowment grant further expanded mental health services through the MINDful College Connections program.
This award highlights a critical trend in higher education: increasing awareness of mental health issues and the importance of well-being on campus. Recent studies suggest that nearly 40% of college students experience anxiety, emphasizing the need for more robust support systems.
