SALT LAKE CITY — Alan Osmond, the oldest of the Osmond brothers, passed away at 76. His family shared that he was surrounded by his wife, Suzanne, and their eight sons during his final moments.
Alan became famous alongside his siblings on “The Andy Williams Show.” The Osmond brothers, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, and Jay, initially performed to help pay for hearing aids for their older brothers, Virl and Tom.
Alan once said, “It was given to us for a purpose, and when you get a gift, it’s expected that you use it properly.” This mindset shaped their musical journey. They later welcomed Donny, Marie, and Jimmy into the spotlight, building on strong family ties and a strong work ethic.
Known as the “One-Take Osmonds,” they honed their skills due to child labor laws limiting their hours. Alan remembered, “We could only work so many hours a day, so we’d take the work home to make sure we nailed it on the first take.”
Faith was a cornerstone of their lives. The Osmonds weren’t shy to share their beliefs. Alan stated, “We’re unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ,” often inviting fans to join them for church.
In 1974, Alan married Suzanne Pinegar, and they raised a large family together. They co-founded the Stadium of Fire in Provo, now known as one of the biggest July Fourth celebrations in the U.S. In 2021, they were named Pillars of Utah Valley.
Alan faced a major health challenge in 1987 when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He recalled a moment on stage where he couldn’t lift his right hand. “I trusted my Heavenly Father,” he said, viewing his struggle as a test of faith. His wife reiterated the importance of their eternal perspective: “This is not forever.”
Alan’s resilience was influenced by his mother’s words: “I may have MS, but MS does not have me!”
Millions continue to support and celebrate Alan Osmond, honoring not just his musical talent but also his deep commitment to family, faith, and community. His legacy reminds us of the power of love and determination in overcoming obstacles.
