MOUNT PLEASANT, MI — Central Michigan University (CMU) leaders met on February 13 to announce changes to the housing and food rates for the upcoming 2025-26 academic year.
On-campus housing costs will rise by 4%, and meal plans will see a 3.5% increase. This means that a typical student living in a residence hall suite can expect to pay $6,314 per semester for both housing and meals. That’s an extra $225 compared to the current rates.
Typically, the CMU Board of Trustees decides on these rates in June. However, this year, they chose to make the decision early. Ari Harris, CMU’s executive director of strategic communications, shared that this change aims to give students and their families more time to prepare for the financial adjustments.
The board voted unanimously on the new rates. This meeting was also notable as it was the first for new Trustees Ashok Kondur and Jeff Stoutenburg, who were appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in December.
