Kaua‘i County’s Agency on Elderly Affairs is holding “talk story” sessions aimed at enhancing the health and wellbeing of our community’s kūpuna. These sessions are a great opportunity for local residents to learn about programs specifically designed to help older adults stay active and engaged.
The agency will showcase several evidence-based initiatives:
- EnhanceFitness: A group exercise program that improves strength, balance, flexibility, and heart health.
- Better Choices, Better Health: A workshop series that provides tools for managing ongoing health conditions.
- Better Balance Line Dancing Class: A fun way to boost movement, balance, and social connections.
Research shows that social engagement and physical activity can significantly improve quality of life for older adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), regular physical activity can lower the risk of chronic diseases and enhance mental health.
The sessions take place on March 30 from 11 a.m. to noon and April 2 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Anahola Clubhouse, located at 3900 Kawelo St., Anahola. Everyone is welcome, especially caregivers and kūpuna, to learn how these programs can contribute to healthier aging in our community.
If you want more details or wish to join, you can reach out to Johnny Yago at the Kaua‘i County Agency on Elderly Affairs by calling 808-241-4898 or emailing jyago@kauai.gov.
For existing advocacy about healthy aging, you can also check the Hawai‘i Healthy Aging Partnership for more resources and support options.
