Discover How REC Limited Kicks Off Swachhata Pakhwada 2025: A Major Step for Cleanliness in Indian PSUs

REC Limited, a key player in India’s power sector, just kicked off Swachhata Pakhwada 2025. This two-week cleanliness campaign runs from May 16 to May 31 and aims to boost hygiene awareness across its offices nationwide. The initiative aligns with the Indian government’s goal of promoting clean and sustainable practices.

The campaign started with a heartfelt Swachhata Pledge. Jitendra Srivastava, the CMD of REC Limited, reminded everyone of the importance of cleanliness. He celebrated India’s achievement in becoming Open Defecation Free (ODF). “Swachhata is not just about cleaning; it reflects our values and respect for our community and nature,” he said. He highlighted how the Swachh Bharat Mission has changed behaviors at the grassroots level, making a real difference in people’s lives.

One of the highlights of the event was a talk by Ramveer Tanwar, known as the “Pondman of India.” His dedication to environmental issues made a strong impression on employees, linking cleanliness to water conservation and public health. His insights are timely; according to a recent report by the National Statistical Office, only 40% of India’s rural population has access to clean water, making such discussions critical.

Jasmer Singh Chauhan, Sarpanch of Sultanpur Village, also spoke at the event. His village recently won the Cleanest Village Award in the Swachhata Survekshan Gramin 2023. His experience showed the impact of community leadership and collective action in achieving cleanliness goals.

A standout feature was a ‘Waste to Art’ installation—a Charkha made entirely from 200 kg of recycled materials. This artwork symbolizes sustainability and was unveiled by senior officials, including the CMD. Such creative efforts are gaining traction; social media trends show a growing interest in eco-friendly art initiatives across India.

To reinforce its commitment to the environment, REC launched a Tree Plantation Drive, promoting biodiversity on its campus. This forward-thinking action mirrors recent statistics indicating that urban tree cover can greatly enhance air quality and community well-being.

In addition to environmental initiatives, a health camp was organized for housekeeping staff to provide routine checkups. Employees were also informed about various government welfare schemes to improve financial inclusion. This initiative is essential, as recent surveys indicate that only 26% of eligible people are aware of such schemes.

Through these initiatives, REC Limited is not just cleaning up but also fostering awareness and community involvement. The efforts reflect a growing trend toward corporate social responsibility in India, where organizations are becoming increasingly aware of their environmental and social impacts.
