Rivian has introduced a new feature: the Rivian Assistant. This AI voice assistant is now available in the latest software update for all R1S and R1T vehicles, as long as owners subscribe to connectivity services.
At the Autonomy & AI Day in December, Rivian teased this intelligent assistant, aiming to enhance in-car voice commands. Unlike basic systems that require rigid commands, the Rivian Assistant enables a more natural interaction. You can easily adjust drive modes, check cameras, and even ask complex questions, similar to how you might use tools like ChatGPT.
One interesting fact is that Rivian is not alone in this race; major companies like General Motors and Volvo are also upgrading their voice features. The Rivian Assistant, however, is integrated deeply into the vehicle, making it capable of handling a wide range of tasks. As they describe it, this assistant acts like an “encyclopedia” for your vehicle, allowing drivers to ask questions instead of flipping through the owner’s manual.
What distinguishes the Rivian Assistant is its ability to connect with services like Google Calendar. This means you can easily change meeting times or navigate to appointments using just your voice, adding real convenience to the driving experience.
As of now, this feature is being rolled out to both Gen 1 and Gen 2 R1S and R1T vehicles, with availability for the upcoming R2 model as well. If you’re a Rivian owner, we’d love to hear about your experiences with the new assistant.
