Discover Seongnam City’s Top 5 Outstanding Environmental Education Programs: Featuring the Inspiring ‘Dreamtlee Environmental Classroom’

Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province recently announced that five of its environmental education programs received certification from the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment. These programs, like the “Dreamtlee Environmental Classroom” and “School Forest Magnifying World,” are recognized for their excellence in teaching eco-friendly concepts.

This certification lasts for three years, until 2028. It highlights the programs’ eco-friendliness and educational quality. During this time, Seongnam City can proudly display the certification and logo associated with these excellent programs.

The selected programs include:

  • Dreamtlee Environmental Classroom: Designed for kids aged 6 to 7.
  • School Forest Magnifying World: Tailored for 4th-grade students.
  • The Earth’s Temperature Is Suspicious: Aimed at 6th graders.
  • Mobile Ecology Classroom: For students with disabilities.
  • All of Us, Let’s Go Green Together: A woodworking class for students with disabilities.

The “Dreamtlee Environmental Classroom” is particularly engaging. Small groups of 15 to 20 children can observe insects and plants, and even make dragonfly-eye necklaces. This hands-on approach helps kids learn about ecosystems while playing.

For students with disabilities, Seongnam City offers specially tailored programs. Instructors visit local special schools to provide interactive lessons on ecology. Activities include sensory play and crafting wooden bookstands, allowing these students to participate fully in environmental education.

Interestingly, these programs were first recognized for their quality in 2022 and have now been re-designated, affirming their continued success and impact.

A city official shared, “This achievement shows our commitment to providing effective environmental education for everyone. We plan to keep finding ways for people of all ages to appreciate and learn from nature.”

In recent years, the demand for environmental education has grown. A survey from the National Environmental Education Foundation indicated that 83% of parents believe environmental education should be part of school curriculums. Programs like Seongnam’s could play a crucial role in fostering a generation that values sustainability.

In sum, Seongnam City is making great strides in promoting awareness about our environment through well-designed educational programs. It’s a small step towards a more sustainable future.
