P.F. Chang’s is getting ready to open its first Delaware location at the Christiana Mall. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, February 25th! The popular restaurant is expected to attract a lot of visitors.
However, not all local food spots are thriving. The Wandering Chef, a beloved food cart at the University of Delaware, recently closed after 13 years of serving soup, sandwiches, and dumplings. Founded by chefs Michael Blovad and John Pudil in 2011, the cart was well-known among students. In a heartfelt farewell post, they thanked their loyal customers and shared that they’re looking forward to enjoying life with family and friends.
Meanwhile, in Ocean City, Maryland, the long-standing Alaska Stand has also shut its doors for good after serving customers since 1933. This iconic spot on the boardwalk was famous for breakfast, milkshakes, and burgers. The owners have announced a new partnership, allowing Thrasher’s French Fries to take over the location.
In Delaware, Colbie’s Southern Kissed Chicken recently closed its doors. Launched in September 2021 by MLB player Ryan Howard and his family, the restaurant served delicious fried and grilled chicken sandwiches. Signs on the doors now read, “We are sorry for the inconvenience. This location is permanently closed.” While the Delaware location has closed, Colbie’s still operates in several other places, including Citizens Bank Park and the Philadelphia Zoo.
In Rehoboth Beach, Atlantic Social, which opened in 2020, has also closed. Originally taking the spot of Ruby Tuesday, it served modern mid-Atlantic cuisine. The owners decided to pivot, and a sign now announces that SoHo Slice, a New York-style pizzeria, will soon open in the same location.
These closures are a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of local dining. While some cherished establishments are closing, new ones are paving the way for exciting dining experiences in the area.
