Discover the Excitement: MTG Final Fantasy’s Golden Chocobo Cards Channel the Magic of One Ring Fever!

Spoilers for the Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy set are finally here! They were revealed during the preview panel at Pax East on May 10. Among a cast of legendary creatures, we find some of the most beloved from Final Fantasy: chocobos.

Chocobos were a must-have for this set, but their power might surprise you. The star of the show is the ‘Travelling Chocobo,’ a mythic rare creature with two impressive abilities. It lets you cast birds or lands from the top of your library. Even more exciting, it doubles the triggers from your birds and lands. This lands-focused strategy is set to make chocobo cards a significant part of gameplay.

While both abilities are useful, doubling the effects of cards like Scute Swarm or Omnath might take precedence over buffing smaller birds. It could be a game-changer, especially in a Derevi, Empyrial Tactician cEDH deck.

The Travelling Chocobo aims to be the centerpiece collectible of this set. In that spirit, there are rainbow chocobos—different flavors of the same card. Collectors, especially Final Fantasy and Magic fans, will likely want to gather them all. Remember how players chased after the unique art of the Lord of the Rings Nazgul cards? This trend is set to repeat, especially since these cards have the vibrant ‘neon ink’ treatment from Kamigawa Neon Dynasty.

Additionally, Wizards of the Coast is rolling out a limited edition Golden Chocobo card. With only 77 available in English collector boosters, this card is sure to create a buzz, much like its counterparts in past releases. Although it may not reach the astronomical price of the $2 million One Ring, fans of both Final Fantasy and Magic have a keen sense of collection. Square Enix once sold limited edition statues for $11,000, showcasing the dedication of these fans.

According to recent surveys, collectible card games have seen a surge in interest. Reports suggest that more players are seeking unique and limited cards for their collections, which would make the Golden Chocobo especially enticing this year.
