West Virginia University is kicking off its first “Music on the Quad” event this Sunday, October 5, from 2-6 p.m. on the Agricultural Sciences Quad near the Evansdale Library. It’s a great way for students, faculty, families visiting for Fall Family Weekend, and the local community to enjoy live music.
The lineup includes four exciting acts: Grace Campbell, The Weevils, The 2 Sides, and Atticus. Each group brings their own unique vibe, showcasing local talent and student musicians.
Grace Campbell, a Mon Hills Records artist and University alum, is making waves as a singer-songwriter. Her debut album, “Bloom,” explores the journey from adolescence to young adulthood, tackling relatable themes. With a strong classical background and diverse influences, she delivers powerful performances.
The Weevils are all about blending fiddle tunes and heartfelt lyrics. With members experienced in various bands, their sound features intricate arrangements and beautiful harmonies, often laced with traditional bluegrass influence.
The dynamic duo, The 2 Sides, made up of Christian Teets and Caden Cook, is known for their energetic shows and original country music. Their songs reflect a modern country sound, influenced by artists like Thomas Rhett.
Atticus, an indie-funk band formed by current students and alumni, has built a reputation for fun, unpredictable sets. Their sound is a mix of original songs and covers that keep audiences dancing.
This gathering is part of Fall Family Weekend, which occurs annually. It’s a time for families to connect with students and experience what the university has to offer.
To enhance your experience, remember the clear bag policy will be in effect. You can bring lawn chairs, blankets, and unopened drinks, but items such as alcohol and tents aren’t allowed. Free parking is available at several lots, and shuttle buses will run to help you get around campus.
Events like these highlight the vibrant culture at West Virginia University and strengthen community ties. If you’re in town for the weekend, it’s a perfect chance to immerse yourself in local music and celebrate together.
