Samsung is back in the spotlight with a fresh version of Bixby, its voice assistant. After an earlier announcement fizzled out in January, this reboot promises to enhance how users interact with their devices.
Bixby has been around for a while, but many still prefer Google Assistant for everyday tasks. The new Bixby aims to change that with significant improvements, particularly in device control.
The update focuses on simplifying how users interact with their devices. Samsung explains that you won’t need to remember specific commands. Instead, you can speak naturally. For instance, if you want to keep your screen awake while you’re reading, you can just say that, and Bixby will handle it without you having to dig through settings.
Imagine asking, “Why does my screen stay on when it’s in my pocket?” Bixby will respond by suggesting relevant settings like Accidental Touch Protection to help solve your issue.
Another exciting feature is real-time web results. Although Samsung hasn’t detailed its source, many speculate it could involve AI like Perplexity, which offers an intuitive web search experience.
Currently, users can test out the new Bixby on Galaxy S25 devices via the One UI 8.5 beta in several countries, including the U.S., Germany, and the UK. The full rollout is expected alongside the Galaxy S26 series launch soon.
It’s interesting to see how Samsung is positioning Bixby in a market heavily dominated by Google and Apple’s assistants. Experts believe that personalization is key. A recent survey found that 72% of users prefer assistants that can adapt to their speaking style.
As the landscape for smart assistants continues to evolve, Bixby’s approach to natural language might just give Samsung a competitive edge.
