Google Photos is rolling out an exciting update with Material 3 Expressive. You might have heard about the changes to the albums view, which are now live on Android. Plus, you can now share albums using QR codes, a feature just announced last week.
The old albums view had an “Add description” field with buttons for sharing and adding photos below the cover. That layout is now replaced by a fresh toolbar designed with Material 3 Expressive. This completes many of the tasks you need—like sharing, adding photos, and editing—right from the floating toolbar. Previously, editing options were hidden away in a menu, but now they’re more accessible.
In the editing view, you’ll notice a docked toolbar that simplifies adding photos and descriptions. Highlights and album covers can also be edited with just a couple of taps. Overall, this redesign offers a cleaner and more intuitive experience.
A recent survey by Statista found that 55% of people use digital photo storage solutions like Google Photos regularly. This speaks to the growing reliance on cloud storage for preserving memories. As we snap more pictures, tools like these become essential for organizing and sharing our experiences.
While we’re still waiting for updates on the rest of Google Photos, the albums redesign and QR code feature are available with version 7.30 on Android. Keep an eye on your updates; there’s more to come!
