Located in Swansea, Rhode Island, Vilma’s at Touisset Country Club has been serving delicious meals for over 60 years. This restaurant, often a hidden gem, welcomes everyone—not just golfers. Recently rebranded, it aims to shed the exclusive image associated with many country clubs.
Diana Nolan, the current owner and a third-generation operator, has a vision for Vilma’s that focuses on community. “I want this to be a friendly place where people can stop in for a drink, enjoy great food, and have a good conversation,” she shared. It’s about creating a welcoming environment for all.
Under Nolan’s leadership, Vilma’s has a new menu, which infuses local flavors and features both traditional favorites and new dishes. This includes the Fall River steak sandwich and innovative appetizers like chicken wings with diverse sauces. Vegan and gluten-free options cater to a wider audience, making it accessible for everyone.
Chef Nicholas Carreiro, a Swansea native who honed his skills in Aspen, Colorado, heads the kitchen. His approach emphasizes fresh, local ingredients crafted with care. Nolan believes his passion will elevate the dining experience and bring guests back regularly.
A recent resurgence in visitor numbers suggests a warm reception from the community. “We’re looking to be a go-to spot for good food at reasonable prices,” Nolan stated. “Our goal is to keep Vilma’s open year-round, not just seasonally.” In 2025, they plan to host live music, enhancing the community vibe even further.
Historically, Vilma’s has maintained a family legacy. The golf course and original restaurant were established by Nolan’s grandparents in 1961. Despite years of operating with outside restaurateurs, Nolan brought the restaurant back under family ownership, honoring her grandparents’ dream of exceptional service and Food.
Nolan’s excitement for the future is palpable. “It’s been steady…but we are still trying to find our rhythm. We’re excited for what lies ahead.” Combining good food, friendly faces, and a dedication to quality, Vilma’s is transforming into a culinary beacon for Swansea.
