“I’ve always been the person who gives flowers for every occasion, big or small,” Monique shared with Saturday Living. “I noticed a gap in Jamaica for more personalized floral gifts, and that inspired me to start Stem & Story.”

What sets her offerings apart? Customers can customize their bouquets with special messages printed on newspaper-style wrapping. Monique uses a variety of flowers in her arrangements, including lovely carnations, peonies, and her favorite, anthuriums.

Valentine’s Day turned out to be a remarkable success for her. “I love offering mini bouquets as they are affordable, especially since many flowers in Jamaica are imported,” she explained. This makes it easier for everyone to give thoughtful gifts without breaking the bank.

Since launching, Monique has been taking pre-orders through Instagram and WhatsApp, and her website, stemandstorystudio.com, makes it even easier for friends and family to connect through flowers. She collaborates with local businesses to create pop-up events that promote self-care through gifting.

“I want customers to feel loved and appreciated. Many buy gifts for their partners, but a lot more treat themselves. They say they love getting flowers just to remind themselves to show love to themselves too,” Monique said. This perspective highlights the importance of self-love and appreciation.

During her Mother’s Day workshop, titled ‘Charms and Bloom,’ she taught attendees how to make their own bouquets and matching charm bracelets, fostering a sense of community and connection. “Everyone left with something special that day,” she added.
