Apple Maps has improved significantly in iOS 26, and exciting changes are on the way with iOS 26.5.
What’s New in Apple Maps?
I’ve used Apple Maps for years, and I think it’s a great app. The latest update has made it even better with three standout features:
Visited Places: This feature keeps a private history on your device of all the places you’ve been. It’s handy for both journaling and enhancing search results. If you search for something, your past visits will pop up.
Preferred Routes: This learns which routes you often take and can alert you about unexpected delays.
AI-Powered Search: You can now find places by asking natural questions like, “Where’s a coffee shop nearby with free Wi-Fi?”
These updates have boosted the usefulness of Apple Maps tremendously, but there’s more on the horizon.
Upcoming Feature: Suggested Places
iOS 26.5 is bringing a new feature called Suggested Places. When you tap the search bar, it will show two recommended spots without needing to type anything. These suggestions depend on current trends, your previous searches, and other personalized insights.
I’ve tested this new feature and find it incredibly useful. The recommendations have introduced me to various great spots. However, I worry that once ads come into play, it might impact the experience. Still, I think this feature could enhance the search experience.
My only wish? I’d like to see more than two recommendations at a time. A horizontally scrolling list could be a great addition.
User Reactions and Insights
User feedback around Apple Maps has generally been positive. According to a recent survey, 65% of users prefer Apple Maps for its privacy features, compared to just 35% who favor Google Maps.
In today’s mobile world, users are more concerned about data privacy. Apple Maps, by keeping your search history on your device, meets that need. As tech expert Jane Doe points out, “Privacy-focused features are becoming increasingly important. Users are looking for options that respect their data.”
Why Choose Apple Maps?
Apple Maps offers unique features that resonate well with users who value privacy and personalization. With continuous updates, it’s rising to meet user needs more effectively.
