Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe have decided to part ways after nearly ten years together. They shared the news through their podcast, “A Touch More,” confirming their separation in a heartfelt statement.
They said, “There really is no smooth or easy way to share this news. After much thought, we’ve made the decision to separate as a couple. This hasn’t been an easy choice, but it’s one we’ve made together, with a lot of love and respect for each other. We’ve built a life together over the last decade, and that is something we will always cherish.”
In a video update, Rapinoe mentioned this change would be visible in their podcast. “It’s been so meaningful for us, especially after retiring, to have this space to share with each other and with you. We’ll still be there for each other and for all of you, just in a different way.”
Bird is a celebrated WNBA point guard and Hall of Famer, while Rapinoe is a renowned forward for the U.S. women’s national team and the NWSL. They started dating in 2016 and went public in 2017. They got engaged in October 2020 but never married.
Both stars met in Seattle, where Bird played for the Storm and Rapinoe for the Reign. Together, they have become symbols of excellence in women’s sports. Bird boasts four WNBA championships and five Olympic gold medals. Rapinoe, on the other hand, has won two World Cups and an Olympic gold.
