This campaign, titled “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” has stirred up significant online debate, with some critics arguing that the ad promotes Sweeney’s thin physique and white heritage.
In a public statement, American Eagle defended the campaign, stating, “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence.”
Trump shared his support on his platform, Truth Social, calling Sweeney’s ad “the HOTTEST” and claiming the jeans are “flying off the shelves.”
The backlash caught the attention of the White House, with communications manager Steven Cheung labeling it as “cancel culture run amok.” Cheung said that this kind of liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in the 2024 election.
Vice President JD Vance also chimed in, commenting on the negative response to the ad during a podcast. He criticized Democrats for labeling anyone who finds Sydney Sweeney attractive as a Nazi, suggesting this reflected poorly on their strategy.
