This season, the NHL is skipping the All-Star game to introduce a new event: the 4 Nations Face-Off. This round robin tournament features teams from the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland.
Though many players are from Scandinavia, the event will be held solely in North America. Matches will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal from February 12 to 15, and then at TD Garden in Boston from February 16 to 20.

- Feb 17: Canada vs. Finland, 1 PM (TNT)
- Feb 17: Sweden vs. USA, 8 PM (TNT)
- Feb 20: Championship Game, 8 PM (ESPN)

Canada

Tournament Format
The tournament begins with a round robin stage. Each team plays three games against the others. If a game is tied at the end of regulation, there will be a 10-minute 3-on-3 overtime followed by a shootout if needed. Points are awarded as follows:
- Win in regulation: 3 points
- Win in overtime or shootout: 2 points
- Loss in overtime or shootout: 1 point
- Regulation loss: 0 points
The top two teams will face off in the championship game on February 20.
