Amy Miller began her stand-up journey about 13 years ago at an open-mic night in a laundromat.
Today, she’s gaining attention as one of Comedy Central’s “Up Next” comics. Her 30-minute special, “Ham Mouth,” is available on YouTube. This weekend, she will take center stage at Loonees Comedy Corner in Colorado Springs. The event is hosted by Miriam Rupp and features Jacob Rupp as well.
Miller has performed at Loonees before and is excited to return. She appreciates the club’s friendly staff and lively audiences.
“I really enjoy that club because the staff is fantastic. They are kind and make it easy to work there, which is great when you travel a lot,” Miller said. She also loves Colorado Springs, calling it a beautiful town.
In her performances, Miller focuses less on observational humor. Instead, she draws inspiration from her own life and experiences.
“I talk a lot about myself and my family. My jokes come from my own ups and downs,” she explained. “I don’t get into political topics. I just share what’s happening in my life because that’s what I know best.”
Miller enjoys the unpredictability of stand-up. Each show brings new surprises, and she finds joy in that challenge.
“I’ve got a bit of cynicism about stand-up, but I love performing. The unpredictability makes it fun, and I appreciate the freedom of working one hour each night without a boss,” she said.
Her goal is simple: to make people laugh and help them forget their worries.
“I wouldn’t say I want to make them think too much,” Miller quipped. “Many folks come to comedy to escape the stress of everyday life. If I can provide an hour of joy and distraction, then I’ve done my job.”
