Eagles Soar to Season’s First Victory Against Warriors – Eastern Washington University Athletics

LEWISTON, ID – Eastern Washington University (EWU) earned their first win of the season with a 5-2 triumph over Lewis and Clark State. This match marked the 30th meeting between the two teams, and EWU has now claimed victory in their last nine encounters, improving their all-time record against the Warriors to 14-16.

In the doubles matches, EWU used the same pairings for the fourth consecutive time. However, Lewis and Clark secured the doubles point with wins in two of the three matches. The first doubles match featuring Tyler Dalos and Caden Kammerer was particularly close, ending in a narrow 7-6 (13-11) win for the Warriors. In the second match, Tyler Waddock and Drew Dillon triumphed over Gautam Balakrishnan and Nell Rollin with a score of 6-4, marking Waddock’s sixth career win in doubles. The third pairing of Arshjot Bhatti and Brady Thomas fell 6-1 to Alvaro Camino and Austin Swing from Lewis and Clark.

Head coach Dustin Hinson commented on the match, stating, “It was really competitive. Doubles started slowly for us, but we fought hard through the tiebreaker. It was so close!”

In singles play, the Eagles maintained their lineup. Waddock excelled in the No. 1 position, winning his match decisively with scores of 6-1 and 7-5. Tyler Dalos followed in the No. 2 position, winning his match 7-5, 6-0, to achieve his first singles victory of the season.

Drew Dillon faced a tougher challenge at No. 3, winning in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, and 6-4. Caden Kammerer had a strong performance at No. 4, winning his match 6-2, 6-4. In a tense match at No. 5, Arshjot Bhatti won the first set 6-3 but had to battle through a close second set, eventually winning the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-6) to earn his second victory of the season.

Hinson expressed pride in his team’s effort, emphasizing their determination regardless of the match outcome. “It was a great battle. Good tennis, super fun, and I’m happy for the guys,” he said.

Eastern’s next match is scheduled against Whitman College in Walla Walla, starting at 3 p.m.
