British musician Ed Sheeran had quite an unexpected moment while performing on the lively streets of Bengaluru. He was singing his popular song “Shape of You” and strumming his guitar when a police officer approached him and unplugged the microphone.
This incident happened just before Sheeran was set to perform at a concert later that night. He was busking on Church Street, one of Bengaluru’s busiest areas, where he reportedly did not have the necessary permits to perform. Shekar T. Tekkannanavar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for central Bengaluru, explained that the decision to stop Sheeran was due to safety concerns in a crowded area. Many people gathered to watch the impromptu performance, leading to a bit of excitement and frustration when the show was cut short.
However, Sheeran later took to Instagram to clarify the situation. He stated that he had indeed received permission to perform in that spot and that it was a planned appearance, not a spontaneous one. His post emphasized that everything had been arranged beforehand, indicating some confusion about the permissions.
Many fans reacted strongly on social media, expressing disappointment and frustration. They criticized the strict enforcement of rules and questioned the bureaucracy that led to this moment. Local politician PC Mohan remarked that even global stars must adhere to local rules, highlighting the need for proper permits for street performances.
Sheeran is in India for a 15-day tour, and there’s a growing interest in live music across the country. His visit follows recent concerts by other international artists like Coldplay and Dua Lipa, reflecting a vibrant music scene that continues to flourish.
