Embrace Eco-Friendly Architecture: Transform Your Space with Sustainable Design Practices

Visakhapatnam: Chitra Vishwanath, the founder of Biome Environmental Solutions, emphasized the importance of eco-friendly architecture and smart water management at a recent event hosted by GITAM School of Architecture. With over 30 years of experience, she is a leader in promoting sustainable living.

Chitra’s firm has crafted more than 700 mud homes in India and Nigeria, along with various eco-conscious buildings like schools and resorts. She is particularly known for her work in rainwater harvesting and shared valuable insights on how to construct buildings that respect the environment.

During her talk, she highlighted how the location of a building can impact energy use. “Understanding local geography and climate is essential for creating designs that make the most of natural light and cooling,” she explained. By combining traditional building techniques with modern design, we can better use available resources and lessen our environmental footprint.

Chitra also shared a personal story about her own mud home, which runs efficiently without fans and utilizes rainwater harvesting and waste recycling. She noted that eco-friendly homes don’t have to be costly; they can actually save money on energy bills while reducing carbon emissions. “If you invest in energy-efficient design today, you’ll see financial benefits in the future,” she added.

Towards the end of her talk, she encouraged everyone to embrace sustainable and mindful architectural methods. Her passion for green practices and community engagement inspired many to think more critically about how buildings impact our planet.
