Middlesex Community College (MCC) has teamed up with Aved Electronics in Billerica to enhance workforce development through a special training program. This initiative, part of MCC’s Corporate and Community Education and Training department, focuses on improving the skills of Aved’s employees.
Marg Drouin, training manager at Aved, appreciates MCC’s support. She said, “MCC has a great track record. They offer a wide variety of programs and expert instructors. They helped me with the grant application, which is usually a long and difficult process. Their help has really improved our training resources and the education we provide.”
Lisa Tuzzolo, MCC’s Senior Director of Corporate Education and Training, echoed this sentiment. “We’re proud to work with Aved to help their employees grow. We partner closely to ensure companies can take full advantage of funding opportunities, offering relevant courses and expert instructors.”
Aved, established in 1979, specializes in creating battery packs for various fields, including medical defense and robotics. With MCC, Aved is providing important training for employees, including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and management skills.
MCC worked alongside Drouin to create a tailored curriculum and find suitable instructors. The classes are held on-site during regular work hours, making it easier for employees to participate.
Anjanaben Patel, a battery assembler at Aved, shared her experience: “I need to read, write, and speak in English. Through these classes, I learned how to communicate better.”
Since 2018, MCC has collaborated with Aved on two Workforce Training Fund Grants. After receiving approval, the college worked with Drouin to roll out comprehensive training for both new hires and existing staff.
Sangita Patel, a solderer at Aved, explained her motivation, “I wanted to improve my English because it’s necessary for many jobs. This is my first job, and I wanted to do it well. The training has made a huge difference.”
