Bangladesh Strengthens Ties with India

Wahiduddin Mahmud, adviser on planning and education, shared the interim government’s commitment to foster an inclusive democracy in Bangladesh. He emphasized the importance of creating a fair environment for upcoming elections that reflect the people’s wishes.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka to mark India’s 76th Republic Day, he noted the ongoing collaboration between Bangladesh and India across various sectors.

Wahiduddin expressed confidence in enhancing the relationship, which is built on mutual respect and understanding. He highlighted a people-centric approach, emphasizing that the welfare of citizens from both nations is a priority.

He also pointed to the unique connection between the two countries, mentioning that their national anthems were penned by the same Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore. This bond reflects a shared history and cultural affinity, which are vital to the relationship.

The adviser recalled the role of India during Bangladesh’s War of Independence, a gesture of support that continues to be remembered fondly. He stressed the need for strong ties with India to foster prosperity and sustainable development in the region.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, also addressed the gathering, which included notable political figures, business leaders, and members of civil society.

Wahiduddin shared his personal connections with Indian academics, highlighting active collaboration and idea exchange between the two nations, which he believes strengthens mutual understanding.

He extended warm wishes to the people of India, hoping for enduring relations between Bangladesh and India.

This year, India celebrates its Republic Day with a focus on the 75th anniversary of its Constitution. Indian President Droupadi Murmu will lead the celebrations, which showcase India’s cultural diversity and development.

With around 10,000 guests from various fields attending, the event continues to promote ‘Jan Bhagidari,’ encouraging greater public participation in national events.
