Seven-Up Bottling Company is helping students grasp the importance of climate education and sustainable practices. At the recent 2025 Green Skills Bootcamp held in Lagos, they trained young minds to tackle environmental challenges and seize green job opportunities.
Lovelyn Okoye, SBC’s Head of Sustainability, emphasized the need to turn environmental knowledge into real action. “We’re giving students practical tools to tackle climate issues, promote recycling, and understand the power of sustainability,” she shared. Nkemdirim Agboti, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs at SBC, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Investing in environmentally aware young leaders is crucial for Nigeria’s future. These students are the innovators we need.”
Sari El-Khalil, the Managing Director, highlighted the creativity of students using recycled materials. He encouraged them to continue exploring and dreaming of a better future. “Your ideas can shape a cleaner Nigeria,” El-Khalil said.
Dr. Bola Adewunmi from LAWMA Academy praised SBC’s efforts to empower young people. He shared inspiring stories of students transforming waste into valuable products. Dr. Tola Bamigbaiye from the Society for Corporate Governance reinforced the idea that sustainability is both a duty and an opportunity for community impact.
The event featured the Green Skills School Challenge and Exhibition, a stage for young innovators to showcase solutions to environmental issues. With 36 students from 18 schools participating, the bootcamp provided hands-on training in sustainability, recycling, and green innovation. Each student received a toolkit to aid their learning and creativity.
Empowering the next generation with practical climate education is vital. According to a recent survey by Gallup, 75% of young people are concerned about climate change, showing a growing awareness among today’s youth. Programs like this not only educate but inspire future leaders to make a difference in their communities.
As the world grapples with pressing environmental issues, nurturing young innovators is key. SBC’s commitment to sustainability shows how local businesses can play a significant role in creating a greener future.
