In Penticton, a new beer is making waves. The Mango Milkshake IPA, launched by Cannery Brewing, is catching attention for more than just its flavor. This unique brew supports women striving to advance in the male-dominated craft beer industry.
Introduced on May 9, the Mango Milkshake IPA contributes its sales to Beer Babes Family, a North American non-profit dedicated to empowering women in the beer sector. Patt Dyck, co-founder of Cannery Brewing, mentioned that this initiative is inspired by the Pink Boots Society, which provides grants and scholarships to women pursuing education in brewing and business.
“We’re thrilled to create this special fundraiser beer,” Dyck said. “The Beer Babes Family reflects a global, inclusive community for women in brewing.” She described the new IPA as bold with a touch of vanilla. “I think they’ve pretty much nailed it. It’s delicious,” she added.
According to Kim Lawton, Cannery’s marketing director, this initiative highlights Dyck’s role as a trailblazer for women in craft brewing. “Patt is an inspiring leader. We aim to keep craft beer an inclusive space, welcoming everyone in our community,” Lawton shared.
This release represents an ongoing commitment from Cannery Brewing to strengthen ties with the community. Dyck noted, “This business is all about relationships.” Cannery, founded in 2001, is one of eight breweries in Penticton, located at 198 Ellis St.
Craft beer is more than just a drink; it’s a movement. According to a recent survey by the Brewers Association, women make up only around 29% of the workforce in craft brewing. Initiatives like this are crucial in shifting that statistic and creating a more inclusive environment. As consumer focus on diversity in industries grows, supporting women-led initiatives can resonate deeply with beer enthusiasts.
The Mango Milkshake IPA is now available at liquor stores across B.C. and Alberta. Supplies are limited, so beer lovers might want to grab one while they can!
