Epic Showdown: A Recap of the Last Clash Between the Commanders and Lions

When the Washington Commanders faced the Detroit Lions on September 18, 2022, it was a tough game for Washington. The Lions jumped out to a quick lead, going up 22-0 by halftime. They clearly came prepared, while Washington struggled to keep pace.

Quarterback Jared Goff shone for Detroit, throwing four touchdown passes. He connected with Amon-Ra St. Brown for two scores, one from 13 yards and another from 11. He also hit Josh Reynolds for a three-yard touchdown and D’Andre Swift for a 22-yard score.

The game saw a rough start for Washington. They fell into a big hole and even gave up a safety when quarterback Carson Wentz was sacked in the end zone. However, they showed some fight, coming back to make it a closer game, ending with a score of 36-27.

In the second half, Wentz found the end zone too. He threw touchdown passes to Curtis Samuel (15 yards), Logan Thomas (20 yards), and Jahan Dotson (1 yard) as the Commanders rallied a bit, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win. Wentz ended the day with 337 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

Goff’s performance was impressive. He ended the game with 256 passing yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions, leading to a passer rating of 121.7. Wentz, though he had strong numbers, faced challenges with a 99.6 rating after being sacked five times.

This game marked the Lions’ first victory of the 2022 season, evening their record to 1-1, while the Commanders dropped to 1-1 after a prior win against the Jaguars.
