Essential Clothing Bales and Food Boxes for Oklahoma and Texas: Support Those in Need!

On May 16, 2025, a report highlighted that 1 in 5 children in Texas face food insecurity. That same day, a food pantry shared its struggles on social media, showcasing empty shelves. In Oklahoma, thrift stores were also low on supplies after severe flooding.

In response, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stepped in, donating 30,000 pounds of food to Texas and 18,500 pounds of clothing to Oklahoma’s thrift stores on May 21. Delisa Jones, the owner of a thrift store that received support, emphasized, “We aim to meet each person’s needs and show them our love.”

Minnie’s Food Pantry and All Community Outreach are two organizations dedicated to feeding those in need. Their founder, Cheryl Jackson, who once faced hunger herself, made a promise to serve as long as food is available. After Jackson’s appeal for donations on May 16, the Church quickly responded with truckloads of food.

Currently, 5.4 million Texans report facing food scarcity, according to a FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth report. Jackson expressed gratitude, noting, “The need is great, but our God is greater.” A community member voiced sentiments on social media, stating, “It takes a whole community to love those who feel lost and broken.”

On the same day as the food donation, missionaries helped distribute clothing across 12 thrift stores in Oklahoma. Fred Morice, a welfare specialist, noted that this shipment contained around 30,000 pieces of clothing, marking a first for clothing aid in Oklahoma. “You hope that it goes far enough to help everyone in need,” he remarked.

The biblical principle in John 13:35 emphasizes that true disciples are recognized by their love for others. Jackson encourages individuals feeling overwhelmed to start small: “If you can’t feed a hundred people, feed just one.”

This event underscores how local communities and organizations can come together during times of crisis, reminding us that kindness can truly make a difference.
