Essity, a global leader in hygiene and health, has earned a remarkable spot on the CDP’s "A List" for its outstanding climate performance. This recognition highlights Essity’s dedication to transparency and sustainability within its operations. The CDP, a well-respected environmental organization, analyzed over 22,000 companies from around the world, grading them on how effectively they manage environmental impacts.
Only a select few made the prestigious “A List” for Climate, showcasing their commitment to reducing carbon footprints and enhancing environmental governance. Essity also received an A- for its forestry practices, further demonstrating its serious approach to sustainable sourcing.
Sahil Tesfu, Essity’s Chief Strategy Officer, emphasized the company’s net-zero goal by 2050. "We’re committed to improving the lives of over a billion people using our products daily, and sustainability is key to achieving that," he stated. With ongoing efforts in the Science Based Target initiative since 2017, Essity is leading the charge to address climate change, a critical issue that affects everyone.
To shrink its carbon output, Essity has invested in innovative technologies. This includes using renewable energy sources like solar, geothermal, and biogas, while also repurposing waste heat. As a major buyer of wood-based materials, Essity ensures all fiber is sourced sustainably, certified by internationally recognized standards like FSC and PEFC.
According to the CDP, which maintains the largest environmental database globally, its assessment process is seen as the gold standard for companies looking to showcase their eco-friendly efforts.
Beyond corporate achievements, public awareness and consumer expectations are shifting towards more responsibility in sustainability. A recent survey found that over 70% of consumers prefer brands that demonstrate environmental stewardship, suggesting that companies like Essity are not only meeting regulatory demands but also consumer expectations.
Essity operates in approximately 150 countries, offering products used by millions daily, under brands like TENA and Tork. In 2024, the company reported net sales of about SEK 146 billion (around €13 billion) and employs around 36,000 people, with its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.
