Evangel University Expands: Major Construction Projects to Support Our Growing Student Community

Students at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., are buzzing about the major construction projects taking shape on campus. Dr. Mike Rakes, the university president, shared that the school is experiencing significant growth.

“I’ve been here four years. For three of those years, we’ve been under construction, and it looks like that’s not changing anytime soon,” Rakes said. He noted that the community is investing in the future of students, highlighting the vibrant opportunities available at Evangel.

Students are excited about what’s coming. Mia Semlow, a transfer student and digital media major who plays soccer, thinks upcoming additions like the new AG Financial Arena will strengthen the university. “It’s kind of a bigger college than I expected. I can’t wait to see new faces and changes on campus,” she shared.

The university is also tackling challenges from its growing population. Rakes mentioned parking has become a significant issue. In response, Evangel added over 250 parking spaces and introduced new lighted sidewalks to enhance campus safety and accessibility.

Additionally, work on the Daryl and Lois Flood Residence Hall is underway, aiming for completion by fall 2026. This new space is part of the university’s commitment to accommodating its increasing student body.

With these improvements, Evangel University is shaping a brighter future for its students and fostering a lively campus environment. As the college evolves, it remains a testament to educational growth and community support, reflecting trends seen in many higher education institutions today.
