Wake Forest University’s men’s soccer team is buzzing with excitement as they welcome midfielder Oliver Kurnik to the 2026 roster. Kurnik spent the past two seasons at Orange County SC, where he honed his skills with their first team.
Originally from Fallbrook, California, Kurnik emerged from the San Diego Surf ECNL and City SC MLS NEXT systems. He shared the field with notable former Wake Forest players, Garrison Tubbs and Nico Benalcazar, who speak highly of both his character and talent.
Head coach Bobby Muuss is thrilled about adding Kurnik to the team. He praised Oliver’s sharp vision, movement off the ball, and ability to play forward. His recent experience training full-time with a USL Championship team gives the coaching staff confidence in his readiness for college soccer.
In his debut match, Kurnik came off the bench during a convincing 3-0 win against Laguna United in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Coach Muuss noted Kurnik’s physical strength and ability to protect the ball, which will be crucial for competing at the collegiate level.
Outside of soccer, Kurnik graduated as the salutatorian of Oasis High School. Athletic talent runs in his family; his father played Division I basketball at Pepperdine, and his sister is currently competing at Colorado College.
Kurnik is now part of a strong recruiting class for Wake Forest as they gear up for the upcoming season. This move is indicative of a growing trend where colleges seek athletes who not only excel in sports but also achieve academically.
