CAA Men’s Basketball Recap – Jan. 30
Four out of seven visiting teams clinched wins last night in the CAA.
Monmouth 104, Drexel 97 (2OT)
Madison Durr had an impressive night, scoring 40 points and making every free throw he attempted. His efforts helped Monmouth secure a thrilling double-overtime win against Drexel. Durr broke a record for the most free throws made in a game without a miss this season.
Drexel started strong but saw the game turn when Abdi Bashir Jr. hit six three-pointers in quick succession, helping Monmouth build a sizeable lead. In a dramatic twist, Drexel managed to tie the game at the end of the second half, forcing overtime. The matchup saw multiple lead changes, with Durr’s clutch performance in the second overtime sealing Monmouth’s victory.
Campbell 96, William & Mary 55
Campbell dominated William & Mary with a well-rounded scoring effort. Caleb Zurliene led with 17 points, while several others also contributed significantly. The team jumped ahead early, going on a strong run that allowed them to take control of the game. By halftime, Campbell had a commanding lead, and they maintained that momentum to secure a 41-point win, marking one of the largest margins in CAA history.
Charleston 81, Stony Brook 74
AJ Smith and Derrin Boyd each tallied 25 points for Charleston in a solid win over Stony Brook. The game began with Stony Brook taking an early lead, but Charleston fought back. By the middle of the second half, they were able to pull ahead decisively, stretching the lead to double digits and holding on for the win.
Towson 76, Delaware 66
Dylan Williamson shone for Towson with 27 points in their victory over Delaware. The game was tightly contested, featuring numerous lead changes. Despite Delaware’s efforts to regain control, Williamson’s late-game heroics helped Towson stay on top and clinch the win.
Hofstra 74, Elon 63
Cruz Davis led Hofstra with 18 points in their win against Elon. After trading leads early on, Hofstra established a strong run that allowed them to build a comfortable lead. They managed to maintain that advantage through to the final whistle.
UNCW 83, N.C. A&T 59
UNCW showcased a balanced attack to secure a decisive win over North Carolina A&T. Khamari McGriff led the scoring effort, providing a strong performance that helped the team pull away after a competitive start.
Northeastern 78, Hampton 69
In another close matchup, Northeastern emerged victorious against Hampton, led by Harold Woods with 16 points. Despite a spirited effort from Hampton, Northeastern maintained control for most of the game, ensuring a solid win on the road.
