Hey everyone, I’m Amid, the founder of Cartoon Brew. I have some news to share today: Cartoon Brew has been sold. As of now, I’m stepping down as the publisher and editor-in-chief, and I won’t be involved with the website anymore.
But here’s the exciting part: Cartoon Brew will stay independent! Jamie Lang, our former editor, is taking over. He knows the site well, having written nearly 1,500 articles. Most recently, he worked as an international features editor at Variety. Jamie returns tomorrow, July 1, to lead the operation.
In a world filled with corporate media and cookie-cutter content, Cartoon Brew stands out. Many people rely on it for their daily animation news. It was vital for me to find someone who shares our passion for animation to take the reins. Our fantastic sales and tech team, led by Katie and Aric, will also remain onboard, along with many talented writers.
I have high hopes for the future of Cartoon Brew. Jamie understands our mission, and I’m eager to see how he will build on the foundation we’ve created. For the first time, I’ll enjoy Cartoon Brew as a reader, and I can’t wait to see its evolution.
Starting Cartoon Brew wasn’t just about business; it was about creating a space for artists. I was frustrated by other animation media that often overlooked their voices. We became the first publication to actively cover artists’ rights, filling a critical gap in the industry. At first, it felt risky, but I knew it was necessary. Over time, companies recognized the value of our approach, understanding that supporting a diverse conversation about animation benefits everyone.
Looking ahead, I’m not sure what my next steps will be, but I know they’ll involve risk—both in business and creativity. Life is about growth, and that means diving into new experiences.
I’ll still be engaged with animation and exploring new avenues. If you’d like to stay connected, check out my site, AmidAmidi.com, where I’ll share my journey, thoughts on animation, and updates on my upcoming project: a biography of animation legend Ward Kimball. Trust me, it’s going to be as fascinating as he was.
A huge thank you to all our readers! You made this journey possible. Writing is a dialogue, and I’ve always aimed to capture what the community wants and needs to know. Together, we’ve created a unique space to discuss this amazing art form.
Let’s keep supporting Cartoon Brew and the animation community, including the artists, fans, and students who will shape its future. It takes all of us to keep this vibrant ecosystem thriving.
It’s been an incredible honor to be part of this community. Thank you for everything!
