In the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Australia faced India at the Dubai International Stadium. Australia set a target of 265 runs, scoring 264 runs in total. Captain Steve Smith and Alex Carey both played crucial innings, with Smith scoring 73 runs and Carey adding 60 runs to the scoreboard.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat. However, their innings got off to a rocky start when Cooper Connolly was out for a duck. With the team struggling at 4 for 1 in just three overs, Travis Head stepped up. He hit some quick boundaries but was dismissed for 39 runs in the eighth over, leaving Australia at 54 for 2.
After a tight first powerplay, where Australia reached 63 for 2, Marnus Labuschagne and Smith worked together. They brought the total to 110 before Jadeja bowled Labuschagne out for 29. Smith, during his innings, reached his half-century with an impressive knock that included several boundaries.
Josh Inglis couldn’t stay long either, falling to Jadeja after scoring 11 runs. Carey followed up with an aggressive batting style, quickly moving the score along before Shami bowled Smith out. With Smith gone, Australia’s hopes of a big score dimmed.
Carey reached his 11th ODI fifty with a flurry of boundaries. He looked set to guide Australia towards a bigger score but was eventually run out after scoring 60 runs. In the end, Australia managed to reach 264 runs, with Shami being the standout bowler for India, taking three wickets. Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja each took two wickets, while Hardik Pandya claimed one as well. India’s task now is to chase down 265 runs to secure their place in the final.
