Quincy University recently appointed Jean Buckley as chair of the Board of Trustees and Hal Oakley as vice-chair. Buckley takes over from Ralph Oakley, who will continue to serve on the board. Jean Buckley has an impressive background. She is president emeritus of the Tracy Family Foundation and has experience from her time on the board of Dot Foods, Inc. Buckley was with the Community Foundation in Quincy for about eight years and led the Quincy Area campaign for QU’s GOAL 2000 initiative. She joined Quincy University’s Board of Trustees in 2023.

Hal Oakley is another noteworthy addition. As a partner at Schmiedeskamp Robertson Neu & Mitchell LLP, he brings over 29 years of experience in higher education governance to his role. His practice centers on corporate law and estate planning. Oakley has been a trustee at Quincy University since 2019.

In a statement about his new role, Oakley expressed his commitment to supporting the university’s leadership and faculty.

This leadership change comes at a pivotal time for Quincy University, which has been adapting to new educational challenges, including increased online learning demand. According to a recent survey from the National Center for Education Statistics, more than 40% of college students are now enrolled in at least one online course, highlighting the need for institutions to innovate in their offerings.
