Exciting News: Alejandro Formosa to Represent Columbia University at the Genesis Collegiate Showcase!

Columbia’s Alejandro Formosa to Compete in 2026 Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase

Columbia men’s golf first-year student Alejandro Formosa has earned a spot in the 2026 Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase. This prestigious event will take place on February 16 at the renowned Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

Formosa kicked off his college golf career with a bang, securing second place at The Metropolis Intercollegiate in September. He shot scores of 73, 68, and 71 during the competition. His solid performance didn’t stop there—he also finished in the top 20 at the Columbia Autumn Invitational, contributing to his team’s back-to-back title wins. By the end of the fall season, he had reached the top 25 in three out of four tournaments, capping it off with a solid 214 at the Red Flash Invitational.

Columbia’s Director of Golf, Rich Mueller, expressed his excitement for Formosa’s achievement. “Alejandro worked hard and had a fantastic start. This is a great chance for him to shine on a big stage,” he noted.

The Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase is a unique platform for college golfers. It pairs them with alumni from their institutions, creating a fun team environment. The participating teams compete for a $50,000 donation back to their school’s golf program. This event first began in 2015 and is now set for its 12th year in 2026.

Teams play a best-ball round, where the lowest score wins. The standout collegiate golfer earns an exemption into a PGA TOUR event, alongside PGA TOUR U points, and the option to play professionally.

Historically, past winners of the showcase include teams from prestigious schools like USC and Texas. Notable individual champions, such as Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris, highlight the event’s competitive nature.

As the excitement builds for the 2026 showcase, it continues to foster connections between current athletes and alumni, enhancing school spirit and community support. A growing trend on social media also shows heightened interest in collegiate golf events, sparking discussions among fans and former golfers alike.
