Exciting News: Beloved Big Bear Eagles Welcome Their Third Chick!

Great news for fans of the Big Bear eaglets!

Jackie and Shadow, the beloved bald eagle couple, welcomed their third eaglet to the family between Thursday and Friday. A live camera at their nest captured the excitement as the tiny chick peeked out from its cracked egg.

Jackie had kept the eaglets cozy under her wings, taking some much-needed rest overnight.

On Thursday morning, the Friends of Big Bear Valley, who manage the live feed, noted some hatching activity. They shared an update at 10:21 a.m., reporting visible movement in the third egg. Just half an hour later, the pip site was noticeably bigger, signaling that the eaglet was preparing to emerge.

The first two eaglets hatched on March 2 and 3, making this third addition a special moment for the whole family.

As for names, the eaglets haven’t been named yet, but the public will have a chance to get involved. The nonprofit will later invite name suggestions, from which they will pick about 30. Local third graders will then vote to choose their favorites.

Jackie and Shadow will nurture their eaglets for about 10 to 14 weeks before they take their first flight. During this time, the young eagles will learn important skills, like hunting, while relying on their parents for support.
