Exciting News: Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis to Reprise Their Roles in ‘Spaceballs’ Sequel! Plus, Keke Palmer and Lewis Pullman Join the Cast!

Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are returning to their roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet in a new Spaceballs movie from Amazon MGM Studios. Keke Palmer is also joining the cast, though details about her character remain a mystery. Pullman’s son, Lewis Pullman, will appear in an undisclosed role.

Moranis’ return is particularly exciting since he hasn’t been active in films for decades. The film will also see Mel Brooks reprising his role as Yogurt. Set to hit theaters in 2027, the sequel has been described as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”

Josh Greenbaum is directing, with a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad, who will also star in the film. The production team includes big names like Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Mel Brooks.

The original Spaceballs, released in 1987, has become a cult classic. It parodied sci-fi films, particularly the Star Wars franchise, and featured characters like Dark Helmet and President Skroob, played by Moranis and Brooks. The plot centers on their attempt to steal the atmosphere of Druidia, a peaceful planet, but they’re stopped by Lone Starr and his companions. Despite grossing just over $38.1 million, the film remains beloved nearly 40 years later.

Pullman is known for other significant roles, including in Independence Day. Recently, he’s been seen in The Sinner and has more projects lined up. Moranis gained fame in the ’80s and ’90s with iconic performances in films like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, but he largely stepped away from acting in the late ’90s to focus on family after his wife’s passing. He’s made a few appearances since, including a recent ad with Ryan Reynolds.

Keke Palmer is on a roll, having recently starred in the comedy One of Them Days alongside SZA. She continues to take on diverse roles, with several upcoming films set for release.

This long-awaited sequel shows how beloved the original Spaceballs has remained over the years. Its mix of humor and adventure has left a lasting impact, reminding us of how nostalgia can bring favorite characters back to life. It will be interesting to see how this new film blends the old with the new. As fans eagerly await, the buzz around the cast and storyline grows.
