Exciting News: Calloway County Students Shine as They Advance to the DOE National Science Bowl!

PADUCAH, Ky. – Calloway County Middle School Team #1 triumphed at the 170th annual West Kentucky Regional Science Bowl, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This competition is a highlight for middle school students in the area.

Coach Scott Pile expressed his team’s excitement about representing western Kentucky at the upcoming National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. “These students truly show hard work and dedication,” he said. “We are grateful to the DOE for supporting our future leaders.”

In total, 18 teams participated in this year’s event, which featured a fast-paced quiz format. Students were tested on various subjects, including biology, chemistry, earth science, math, and physics.

April Ladd, the Lead at the DOE Paducah Site, praised the event. “The Science Bowl is an amazing showcase of talent and teamwork. It encourages students to explore their passion for science, which will benefit them in the long run,” she said.

The winning team will receive $1,200 for their school and will head to the National Science Bowl finals from April 24 to 28.

Lone Oak Middle School placed second, while St. Mary Middle School secured third. Other participating teams included:

  • Heath Middle School
  • Henderson County North Middle School
  • Hopkinsville Middle School
  • Murray Middle School
  • Paducah Middle School
  • Reidland Middle School
  • Massac Junior High School from Illinois
