ABC is adding a new twist to its lineup for the 2026-27 season. They’ve announced a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff set in Texas! Creators Shonda Rhimes and Meg Marinis will write the show, which still doesn’t have a title.
This new series marks the third spinoff from Grey’s Anatomy, following Private Practice and Station 19. The story will focus on a medical team at a rural clinic in West Texas. This clinic is described as “the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.” Meanwhile, the original Grey’s Anatomy series is gearing up for its 23rd season this fall.
Marinis expressed her excitement, saying, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will capture the same heart and emotion audiences have loved for more than two decades.” She added that being set in Texas makes it even more special for her.
After spending time at Netflix, Rhimes is returning to her roots with this new project. The spinoff is slated for a 2027 premiere, though there’s no info yet on whether any familiar faces from Grey’s will join the new cast.
Production will come from Shondaland and 20th Television, with Rhimes, Marinis, Betsy Beers, and Grey’s star Ellen Pompeo among the executive producers.
