Pixar is making exciting changes for Incredibles 3! Peter Sohn, known for Elemental and The Good Dinosaur, will take the helm as director.
Brad Bird, who directed the first two films and wrote their screenplays, is working on the script for this new film. Those two entries earned a whopping $1.8 billion together at the box office. Bird is teaming up with Dana Murray, who won an Oscar for Soul, to produce this threequel.
The beloved Parr family, featuring Bob and Helen (voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter), continues their journey in a quiet suburb while navigating life as superheroes. The main cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Vowell.
The original Incredibles was released in 2004, winning the Academy Award for best animated film. The sequel, Incredibles 2, hit theaters in 2018 and grossed $1.24 billion worldwide. Disney announced the third film at the D23 Expo in August 2024. While Bird is involved in its development, he won’t direct due to being busy with pre-production on Ray Gunn.
Sohn has a strong relationship with Bird. He has collaborated with him on every animated film since The Incredibles and was chosen to lead the third film by Bird and Pixar’s creative officer Pete Docter. As a Pixar veteran, Sohn has also lent his voice to characters in several other films like Ratatouille and Monsters University. His recent movie, Elemental, was nominated for an Oscar for best animated feature last year.
As for what’s next, Pixar is busy preparing for the release of Elio on June 20. This film features voices from Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, and Jameela Jamil, directed by Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi. The studio is keeping its creative momentum alive as they look to bring fans more animated adventures.
