Kenneth Branagh is joining the cast of the highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, which is set to begin filming this week. Branagh will portray Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly’s husband.
Meryl Streep returns alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. Fans are eager to see how their dynamics play out, especially with Blunt quipping about their history of playful rivalry: “Why are Meryl and I so mean to each other in every movie we do? We always have beef with each other.”
This sequel, directed again by David Frankel, will explore Miranda’s challenges as the magazine industry faces drastic changes. She’ll need to mend ties with her former assistant Emily, now a leader in the luxury brand world.
The first film, released in 2006, grossed over $326 million worldwide and earned Streep an Oscar nomination. Its impact on fashion and pop culture remains significant, leading to Lauren Weisberger’s sequel novel, Revenge Wears Prada, published in 2013, and a stage musical set to debut in the West End in 2024.
Branagh recently starred in A Haunting in Venice and wrapped up production on the thriller The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde with Jodie Comer.
The new film, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2026. With nostalgia for the original and a fresh storyline, it promises to bring fans back into the stylish world of fashion.
